NEW EUROPEAN SAXOPHONE QUARTET Gianni Gebbia Vytas Labutis Anatoly Vapirov Petras Vysniauskas Varna, Vilnius and Palermo - these three towns represent different mentalities, thus they represent the different approaches of the musicicians who come from these different towns to music. As a way to create a group sound the free improvisation was chosen. Without any bigger arrangement beforehand they started playing and the audience could notice immediately that here four musicians with excellent virtuous abilities were playing who also spiritualized a considerably big range of ways of playing contemporary saxophone music. (Bernd Jahnke) The individuality of the musicians didn't get lost, it assembled into a common process of making extraordinary music. The respect for the performance of the other musicians was noticeable as well as the ability to retain oneself in the play. All this promoted the development of wonderful sound landscapes. Tension grew with the change from quieter, lyric passages to free-expressive playing, accompanied solo pieces marked the concert as well as the collective improvizing.
