From the Sardinia of the Tenores di Bitti (Bitti Tenors) an original project dedicated to the female polyphony.
Songs of love and sacred songs, lullabies and popular dances, funeral laments and serenades.
A polyphonic quintet of fascinating female voices made up of Alessandra Leo, Roberto Locci, Valeria Parisi, Manuela Sanna and led by the deep voice of Valeria Pilia.

Side by side with this quintet, we have a great expounder of Sardinian music, the virtuoso musician Orlando Mascia, an expert of traditional Sardinian music and a specialist player of traditional musical instruments such as the “launeddas” (flute with 3 reeds), the “sulitu” (traditional flute), the “trunfa” (jew?s harp) and the “organetto” (accordion) which he uses to dialog with the voices of the group.

Still at the end of the 19th century Orgosolo was a little village in the picturesque countryside of Barbagia in the inner of Sardinia, a notorious spot of Earth, ruled by gangs and clans whose roots can be traced back until the time of the Spanish rulership. Today the place is famous for its Murales, graffity with scenes of the everyday life of its inhabitants and for its rich musical tradition: Orgosolo is the only place in Sardinia where the passing down of archaic singing to the rosary prayer is still unbroken; the polyphonic singing of the old women in the old dialect of the region can last for an hour. The programme of the Actores Alidos is dedicated to the archaic singing of the the Sardinian women. Beside lithurgian songs like the rosary prayer from Orgosolo and songs in honour of the Saint Virgin Mary the five women interpret tradtional lullabies, spiritual charols and lamenting songs and mainly singing at Easter which is a significant occasion for the inhabitants of the region Barbagia to sing the traditional songs. For Actores Alidos these songs are a neverending source of inspiration, they take them up and interpret them with their knowledge about the oral tradition of today: the polyphonic rhythmic singing, the ‘false’ Bordun sounds - a fascinating polyphony of sounds, rhythms and melodies. They are looking for the dialogue with the launedda, a magic ritual flute which could already be found on 3000-year-old statuettes and whose players still have the significance of shamans. On Sundays they play in churches and accompany the people with their dancing.

* In reality the terms for classical voices give an idea but they are not exactly as in classic music.
